Book Investigation Case#: 0003 Subject: When the Sword Sings: A Rascal of Laray Novel, Book 1 Creator: M.C. McIntosh
Emcee Macintosh here. Today we have a special case by my very own boss, M.C. McIntosh. We’ll be delving into her fantasy novel When the Sword Sings. Don’t you worry, though. I’ll ensure she receives no special treatment.
Questions for the Subject:
Emcee: So you’re relatively new to the world?
WTSS: Yes, I was published in March 2022. It’s good to be out. Finally getting to meet readers.
Emcee: So how would you describe yourself? What would you say is going on inside you?
WTSS: Well, Emcee, I’m a young adult fantasy novel, with bits of action, romance, and mystery.
Jerick ReSing, my obnoxious and controversial main character, is determined to earn the respect the title of national sword champion deserves, by going on a mission to find and fight the Rascal of Laray. A young woman by the name of Fenix, who is both a rumored extraordinary sword fighter and an outlaw. Nothing goes according to plan, of course. Jerick runs into all sorts of obstacles, including himself, that keep him from his goal.
Emcee: What kind of obstacles are we talking about?
WTSS: There are several, Jerick’s sung sword Harmony, is magical and rebellious. She has a mind of her own when it comes to Jerick’s fights. And can make his duels unpredictable.
Emcee: That doesn’t sound like good news for a sword champion?
WTSS: It’s not. On top of that, Jerick is from Dyanne but has to work within the Laraine society while in Laray to try to find Fenix. Laraine don’t trust Dyanne and have good reason not to.
Emcee: Oh yes, there seemed to be a complex relationship between the two countries.
WTSS: You’re on the note there. The Laraine are said to be both violent and superstitious. They surrendered to the Dyanne empire many years before my pages begin to maintain peace and prepare for an even greater, more sinister threat. I won’t say what, but readers are welcome to come find out.
That seems like a lot to keep up with?
WTSS: Well, M.C. came up with a pronunciation guide to help readers keep titles, countries, religious sects, and characters straight. It also has a few spoiler-free clues.
Emcee: Great!
(Emcee Aside: I can finally figure out what all that Mir/Mira business is all about.)
WTSS: Did you say something?
Emcee: No… I was just wondering who else besides Jerick, we get to meet in there?
WTSS: Oh, you’ll get introduced to quite a few characters, but, between you and me, I’m quite fond of Fenix. She and her friends are fun characters to hold and experience.
Emcee: So M.C. says you have a sibling being cooked up. Any dates, I mean, details you want to share?
WTSS: Yes, a couple of them. I’m as eager to hear more about them as you are.
Summary and Conclusion:
Reporters Opinion: Though I may not be the most unbiased of sources, I suspect those curious enough to get deep within these pages, will find a rousing and entertaining tale. I, too, can’t wait to read what happens next. Grab your copy today.
Further notes:
Fair warning, Investigators will find in the contents some violence and magic.
